摘要:
To further clarify the spatial characteristics of the East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) during the Holocene, this study presents a high-resolution pollen analysis from a lacustrine-wetland profile in the Xingyang Basin, aimed at reconstructing Holocene precipitation variability in the Central Plains of China. The results show a relatively humid climate during the early Holocene (~11.7 to ~7.0 ka BP), a drier climate during the middle Holocene (~7.0 to ~4.0 ka BP), a more humid climate in the early part of the late Holocene (~4.0 to ~2.4 ka BP), and a relatively dry climate in the later part of the late Holocene (~2.4 to ~1.0 ka BP). We reviewed existing Holocene precipitation and moisture sequences from the Central Plains and compared them with coeval sequences from the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and from northern China (north of the Yellow River). The comparison reveals that precipitation and moisture variations in the Central Plains were in phase with those in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River before ~4.0 ka BP, and thereafter became synchronized with those in northern China after ~4.0 ka BP. The primary mechanism controlling the spatial pattern of Holocene precipitation and moisture in the Central Plains appears to be variations in the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the associated north–south displacement of the Western Pacific Subtropical High (WPSH).
